New Zealand’s Greg Barclay elected as new ICC Chairman

New Zealand cricket’s Greg Barclay has been elected as the new chairman of International Cricket Council (ICC) after second round voting concluded. Greg has been serving NZC as director since 2012 and he’s currently representative of New Zealand board at ICC. He’s Auckland based commercial lawyer as well.

Greg Barclay will be replacing India’s Shashank Manohar at the high post in ICC board. Singapore’s Imran Khwaja was in the race for ICC chairman position but Barclay won. As per reports Barclay won Chairman post by 11-5 votes over Khwaja. England, India, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa were in the favor of Greg for prominent position.

Greg was director of 2015 cricket world cup as well which was hosted jointly by New Zealand and Australia.

“It is an honour to be elected as the Chair of the International Cricket Council and I would like to thank my fellow ICC Directors for their support. I hope we can come together to lead the sport and emerge from the global pandemic in a strong position and poised for growth,” Greg quoted as saying by ICC in a release.

“I look forward to working in partnership with our Members to strengthen the game in our core markets as well as grow it beyond that ensuring more of the world can enjoy cricket.
