Winning 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup is not enough for Mexico to qualify in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup. El Tri clinched Gold Cup 2015 by defeating Jamaica in the final by 3-1 and now they will be eager to win against USMNT in the playoff of Confederations Cup 2017.
Mexico and United States are set to meet in knockout clash on 10 October, 2015. Most probably the match will be played at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena as CONCACAF hasn’t confirmed the venue officially. USA team settled with fourth position in Gold Cup after losing knockouts against Jamaica and Panama.
FIFA Confederations Cup is one of the prestigious and biggest events in football world. If USMNT succeed to beat El Tri on 9 October and seal berth in Confederations 2017, all their sins of not winning Gold Cup would vanish.
United States team will be having two friendly matches against Brazil and Peru in the September month which will surely help them ahead of 2017 Confederations Cup playoff match against El Tri. On the other hand Mexico will be playing Trinidad & Tobago and Argentina in friendly games in September.
USMNT coach Jurgen Klinsmann also meant that these friendly matches would play big role in the preparations for qualifying match in October. He said, “It’s clear we’re looking toward September and those two friendly games to build things in order to be prepared for the playoff in October.”
“We didn’t use that opportunity to finish things off in this tournament so we have to finish it off in October. If there’s a rise in expectations, that’s totally cool. There’s constant expectation, constant pressure for everybody. That’s just normal. It’s part of our job,” American coach added.
