Indian government has given green signal to the 13th season of Indian Premier League to be played in UAE. On Sunday 2 August’s general council meeting, it is updated that IPL 2020 final is set to be played on 10th November just 4 days ahead of Diwali.
According to BCCI official interview with IANS, it would be first ever occasion when IPLT20 final to be played on weekday instead of weekend. Bio secure environment will be there for all players and officials during the whole IPL 2020 scheduled to kick off on 19 September.
“We have decided to go up till November 10 and so the final will be held on a weekday for the first time. Also, to ensure that there is enough gaps between games considering the travelling and the bio secure environment and keeping all these things in mind, we will have 10 double headers this season,” BCCI official told IANS.
Only 10 double headers are scheduled for this year’s cash rich t20 league due to give players more relax in the COVID-19 situation. Also evening matches to begin at 7:30 PM, thirty minutes early than original timings of 8 PM. The decision is sensible as during September-November period, days are short and viewership might get lower if game goes to late night as per Indian watch.
“We have decided to bring it forward by 30 minutes from the regular time of the IPL which is 8 p.m. for evening games and we will start at 7:30 instead.”
Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) is planing to have spectators at the ground and it is reported that upto 50 percent seats would be fill for the IPL 2020. Hence it would be great if it is done as players will feel great to have cheer from the ground. However about all these things will be discussed with UAE board in due course.
“It would be great to have some fans come in as that would boost the morale of the players for sure. But what needs to be remembered is that the safety of the players is priority. So, these are things we will discuss with the ECB at the right time,” he added.
BCCI official also said that visa process would be applied soon for the players and staff. Sports Minisry has given clearance for the event and it is expected that all other departments will also give green light to showpiece twenty20 competition.
“We have been asked to start our visa process. The BCCI has received clearance from the Sports Ministry and we are hopeful of a positive response from the other departments quite soon as well.
