Everything you need to know about IPL 2020

IPL 2020

Just like every major sporting event in the world, the IPL had to be suspended too due to the coronavirus pandemic in 2020. Originally scheduled to begin on March 29th, the league was postponed indefinitely.

However, as the world regains from the pandemic gradually, the IPL is all set to make a comeback! Early this August, it was announced that the tournament would be taking place from September 19th to November 10th in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah.

This isn’t the first time the tournament has been played in the UAE though. The 2014 IPL season was played in UAE due to the on-going national elections during the year.

So while fans of the league are no stranger when it comes to watching their favorite teams in foreign countries, there will be some differences in this year’s IPL than ever before.

Social distancing, masks, and hygiene

In order to keep the players and staff safe during the games, strict social distancing norms would be followed. There would be no sharing of equipment and masks would be mandatory when for players and the staff.

Additional proposed rules include players dressing up for the match at the hotel itself instead of the stadium and players maintaining a social distance of up to 2 meters at all times and all places.

Health more important than ever

The coaches of the teams have been given the additional responsibility of ensuring that the players are not feeling ill or showing any symptoms of the disease. The medical staff on the teams have been provided with precise details and SOPs on how to manage the situation.

Changes in the squad size

Normally the standard squad size of an IPL team during normal seasons is set at 25. However, for the 2020 season of the IPL, the squad size will be reduced to 24 players. This means teams with 25 member squads will have to leave one man behind when they leave for the UAE.

Still an overall win for fans and sportsbooks

The IPL is the biggest cricket league in the world and some of the top online sportsbooks like 10Cric rely on IPL matches to generate significant revenue which is why the decision to not suspend this year’s season is a very favorable one for them. Other than the bookmakers, the fans are rejoicing too at a chance to root for their favorite teams and witness some of the best cricketing action the world has to offer!
