World champion Australia have defeated Pakistan in an exciting thriller of 2019 cricket world cup league match at Taunton. Australia registered 41-runs victory over 1992 champions. However the margin looks pretty good but at one stage Pakistan were required 48 runs with three wickets in hand and skipper Sarfaraz and Wahab Riaz were playing brilliantly in 64-runs partnership.
Mitchell Starc took crucial wicket of Wahab Riaz to end key partnership that was taking game away from title defenders. Fast bowler Riaz made 45 runs in 39 balls with the help of 3 sixes and 2 fours before returning to pavilion and till then he was one the crease, hopes of Pakistani fans were high as Men In Green lost their 7th wicket on 200 score and he added valuable 64 runs with captain Sarfaraz.
Pakistan all out for 266 runs in 45.4 overs and last batsman was Sarfaraz Ahmed who was dismissed by Richardson. Before this, Pak won toss and ask Australia to bat first in the cloudy conditions and green top wicket. The decision went against Men In Green as Australian openers Finch and Warner provided good start to the team though Pakistan missed opportunities to out both these.
Australia captain Aaron Finch was dismissed by Mohammed Amir in 23rd over and he made 82 runs. Left handed David Warner scored brilliant hundred to take team’s total past 300 though he wasn’t there when Australia reached there. Aussies posted 308 runs on the board before getting all out as their middle order collapsed and team couldn’t play 50 overs. One over was left in their innings.
Poor fielding and bad shot selection caused the match to Pakistan as in field, Men In Green dropped Warner and Finch quite few times and then batsmen played some irresponsible shots that took match away from Pakistan.
