The opening twenty20 international of three T20I matches SA vs WI series 2015 was won by West Indies. The match was played at Newlands in Cape Town. South Africa won the toss and chose to bat first. SA made 165 runs in their 20 overs quota. West Indies won the match in last over by 4 wickets with 4 balls remaining.
South Africa inning
After winning toss South Africa didn’t get a quick firing start as both openers contributed 30 runs partnership in 4.2 overs. Reeza Hendricks was the first batsman to fall in South Africa innings. He made 12 in 12 balls. After first wicket fall captain Faf Du Plessis came to bat and joined Morne Van Wyk. But Van wyk couldn’t bat more and he lost his wicket on team’s total of 33 in 5.1 overs. He made 17 in 15 balls.
Rilee Rossouw joined the crease with captain Du Plessis. Both batsmen started to play cricketing shoots and sensible cricket too. Captain was looking in great touch and playing a captain’s knock. He was looking much aggressive in batting and he hit two big sixes in his 38 runs inning in 20 balls. South Africa lost third wicket on 79 score in 9.5 overs. Now David Miller and Rossouw built the partnership for Porteas team.
Both batsmen took South Africa total past 100 in 13 overs. Miller was playing a supportive inning in the first twenty20 match of series against Caribbean bowlers. He scored 24 in 21 balls before getting out. SA was now 127/4 in 16.2 overs. South Africa didn’t lose any more wicket and Behardien and Rossouw played good strokes at the end of innings.
Rille Rossouw completed his half century in 39 balls with five boundaries. Behardien returned 18 runs not out in 12 balls. Rossouw made 51 in 40 balls. South Africa put 165 runs total after completion of 20 overs. For West Indies Sheldon Cottrell took 2 wickets in South African inning.
West Indies inning
In the chase of 166 in first T20I against Protes, West Indies got a flying start. Both openers Gayle and Smith were looking dangerous, especially Gayle. Swayne Smith was playing run a ball inning whereas Chris Gayle was playing like he is seeing a football in a cricket ball. Chris Gayle was at his best and both batsmen added 78 runs in first six overs of the inning.
Just after the completion of power-play overs Smith was dismissed by spinner Imran Tahir. Dwayne Smith made 20 runs in 20 balls. Smith’s wicket didn’t put any pressure on Gayle and he was batting destructively.
Chris Gayle completed his fifty in just 17 balls with 5 boundaries and 5 big sixes. He didn’t run single run in his first 50 run of inning. He becomes first Caribbean batsman to score fastest fifty in Twenty20s. West Indies reached to 100 run score in just 9.5 overs. Caribbean team required another 64 runs in 60 balls. Gayle was Imran Tahir. He made 77 in 31 balls before getting out. He hit 8 sixes and 5 fours in 77 runs inning. Marlon Samuels and Dwayne Bravo started to build the partnership and took team towards winning total.
Bravo dismissed in 16th over when WI total was 147. Caribbean team completed 150 in 16 overs.

Samuels and Pollard were batting together but Marlon Samuels couldn’t stay at crease for more and Tahir took his third wicket in the match. Samuels made 41 in 32 balls. Andre Russell and Ramdin got out just before the victory. Pollard confirmed 5 wickets win for West Indies in the last over of inaugural T20I game of 2014-15 series against South Africa.
The second t20 match of series will be played on 11 January at Johannesburg.
