International Cricket Council has approved the replacement of Jeevan Mendis in Sri Lankan team for world cup 2015. Left handed batsman Upul Tharanga has been included in Sri Lanka squad as Mendis got hamstring injury during a practice session.
Captain Angelo Mathews confirmed Jeevan Mendis injury and told that Upul would be arriving in Australia before few hours of game-18 against Bangladesh.
He said, “Upul will be arriving tonight, but Jeevan will be out for a minimum of two to three weeks. Jeevan will be out of the series and he’ll be going back after the next game.”
Upul Tharanga has represented Sri Lanka over the years and he can bat at any position if Chief Selector Sanath Jayasuriya words are meant.
He said Daily Mirror, “Tharanga has batted at all positions from No. 1 to 7, and has performed equally well. That is an advantage. His vast experience is the biggest plus.
