Andy Roddick was defending champion in 2004 year’s US Open championship but he knocked out in quarter-finals against Joachim Johansson.

Roger Federer was defending US Open title for the first time and it was against 1999 winner Andre Agassi. Federer vs Djokovic 2007
This was probably most challenging US Open final for three time winner Roger Federer as he was against future champion Novak Djokovic. Experienced from USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center’s hard court surface Swiss star Federer beat Serbian Djokovic by 7-6(7-4), 7-6(7-2), 6-4. This was Roger Federer’s fourth straight US Open men’s singles title win.
Federer created history in 2008
Roger Federer was playing 2008 US Open tournament to defend his title for the 4th time and he defended it successfully by defeating Britain’s Andy Murray in the final. Andy Murray couldn’t stand against four time champion and Federer beat Murray in straight sets by 6-2, 7-5, 6-2 to win his 5th straight US Open title. As Federer registered fifth US Open win he became first player to win 5 successive US Open crowns.
Roger could win sixth US Open title too consecutively but he lost final against Juan Martin del Potro who beat Federer in a tough final by 3-6, 7-6(7-5), 4-6, 7-6(7-4), 6-2.
