Report: Morumbi stadium to host 2019 Copa America Opening game

Sau Paulo’s Morumbi Stadium is set to kick off Copa America 2019 edition with the opening match of tournament on 6 June. According to UOL, the Morumbi stadium will be the opening stage of the 2019’s mega South American football event.

Morumbi missed out on the hosting of 2014 World Cup matches but now it will host Copa America’s 46th edition matches. Also according to the portal, Allianz Parque will receive the other matches of the competition held in the city of Sao Paulo and Maracana should be chosen to host the grand finale.

The official announcement on Conmebol’s decision will be made at a meeting scheduled for next Tuesday, 18 September in La Paz, Bolivia. As per reports, Sao Paulo to receive 5 matches of the competition and we can expect to see Morumbi hosting few more games apart from the opening game.

Morumbi has got capacity of having more than 60,000 people to sit in the ground and cheer for their respective football team. Corinthians Arena which hosted first game of 2014 world cup, will not be hosting any game in Copa America next year.

2019 Copa America to be played among 12 teams including hosts Brazil and two Asian teams Qatar and Japan, invited for South American championship. Chile is the title defending champion in 46th Copa American event.
