Qatar national football team is set to play South American soccer giant Brazil in a friendly match before heading into their first appearance at CONMEBOL’s Copa America. According Qatari coach Felix Sanchez team management and Qatar football association are in talks with major South American federations to make sure team gets good games ahead of 2019 Copa America.
“We need to finalise the preparations but sure we need to play a couple of games. We prepare a list of potential teams that we would like to play against but also we need to see their availability,” coach Sanchez said.
Qatar recently won Asian Cup defeating Japan in the final. Initially when Qatar was invited for Copa America event, many experts and associations criticize the decision but both winning Asian Cup, Qatar proved that they deserved to be invited for such kind of top class soccer championship. Japan is also invited for the showpiece event in June-July.

South American football teams are the top class sides and they play a different level of game. Hence Qatar needs at least few practice matches ahead of Copa America and QFA president Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Bin Ahmed al-Thani said during an Asian Cup winning Qatar team’s award function that team would play at least a friendly match against CONMEBOL team.
“It will be [a team] from South America, we will announce it as soon as possible,” Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Bin Ahmed al-Thani said.
Apart from Brazil, Qatar is expected to play against Panama, Colombia and United States in the preparation of premium flagship soccer event. It is also reported that 2022 FIFA World Cup hosts could set up a training camp in the USA ahead of Copa America 2019.
This year’s Copa America will be 46th edition and Chile team is the title defending champion in the competition starting from 14th June.
