Pakistan Cricket Board has officially announced that opening season of tournament will be played outside the Pakistan due to security concerns. Qatar is one of the finest nations for organizing sporting events as it will host 2022 FIFA world cup as well.
The PCB executive committee head Mr. Najam Sethi confirmed that PSL-1 will be played from 4 to 24 February. He said, “After extensive negotiations with various stakeholders, the Pakistan Super League governing council has decided to lock Doha as its preferred location for the tournament.”
There will be 5 teams taking participation in the first season of PSL and it is also confirmed by Mr. Najam Sethi that tournament will be held in the month of February. 24 matches will be played throughout the first edition of Pakistan Super League.
“The five-team tournament will take place in February next year with a total of 24 matches scheduled to take place in the first edition. We are starting with five teams in order to build the value of our franchises and will expand the number of teams in the coming editions,” Mr. Sethi added.
Organizing this kind of T20 league in 2016 February month, will definitely help Pakistani cricketers ahead of ICC World Twenty20 2016 which will take place next year in the month of March-April in India.
Mr. Sethi also confirmed that Indian players won’t be a part of this league and top players from other top countries will be playing in the league.
He said, “Top foreign players from all Test-playing nations except India have expressed interest in signing up for the PSL. As of now, the PSL team has consent from over 40 international players. In addition, top foreign coaches are also being roped in for the first edition of the PSL.
