International Cricket Council has brought six new rules in One-Day Internationals which may bring lots of challenges for captains in ICC world cup 2015. These new ODI rules will make the game of cricket more exciting in world cup and will create suspense in fans and viewers. Let’s have a look at these rules and their effects which can give headache to all participating teams and captains.
New ODI rules in 2015 world cup
(1.). 2 new balls use from the start of inning
Explanation: ICC has made one of the biggest changes in ODI games as now from the starting of an inning bowling side will have two new balls. It means from both ends bowlers will be bowling with two new balls.
Effect: It is going to be exciting to see how batsmen respond against two new balls as in Australia and New Zealand bowlers will get more swing and advantage from the pitches. New balls will be giving advantage to bowling side but it can help batting team too as batsmen can play shoots easily and ball runs away fast on the field.
(2.). Only two power plays in an inning
Explanation: ICC has removed third powerplay from the game as per new rules. Now there are two powerplays in which one is mandatory PP. This compulsory power-play will be active in first 10 overs of an inning and second is batting powerplay whose activation will be depending batting team. Batting side can take this 5 overs power-play anytime before 40th over of their inning.
Effect: Interesting to see how teams will play in the second powerplay as maximum times teams fail to score runs in batting power-plays. In bowling friendly conditions in New Zealand and Australia it will be interesting to watch who take it’s advantage.
(3.). Five fielders compulsory in 30 yards for 50 overs
Explanation: As per the new rules there will be five fielders always be present in 30 yards circle throughout the inning.
Effect: Bowling side captain will be having more concern about the fifth bowler in playing XI. Before this rule, captains could go with part timers as 5th bowler in the team. But now they have to stop runs and for it captain needs to include specialist bowler in the final playing 11 side.

(4.). DRS to play major role
Explanation: This is going to be first occasion when in a cricket world cup Decision Review System (DRS) will be used. Snickometer technologies will also be used. Some teams including India never accepted DRS system but now they’ll have to play 2015 world cup with DRS technology which enables batsman/bowler to go upstairs over the decision of on-field umpire.
Effect: DRS system will be helpful for batsman and bowler to go against on-field umpire’s decision. If a batsman feels that he is not out and umpire has given out then he can use DRS system to get decision in his favor if snickometer confirm that he is not out. Similarly with bowlers. If bowler thinks that batsman is out and umpire didn’t give it then they can use DRS technology.
(5.). No runner will be allotted
Explanation: If a batsman is unable to run, no other team mate can run on the behalf of that batsman.
Effect: While doing batting if a batsman gets injured and he is not capable to run he will not be provided runner. He has to run himself anyhow or hit the ball for boundary.

(6.). Bowler can run out batsman before bowling
Explanation: This is going to be an interesting rule as now bowlers will be having opportunity to run out the batsman before bowling if batsman is out from his crease.
Effect: This new ODI rule will make worry for batman on the non-strikers end as they have to be careful and not let them bowlers to run out them before the next bowl.
