IPL 2015 Defending champs KKR beat MI by 7 wickets in 1st match

2015 Indian Premier League defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders have won the opening match of tournament against Mumbai Indians. KKR defeats MI by 7 wickets to show they are ready to defend their IPL trophy. Morne Morkel was declared Man of The Match for his two wickets in 4 overs by spending just 18 runs.

This is the big win for Kolkata as this is the fifth occasion when they beat Mumbai in played 15 matches at IPL. Winning the toss KKR chose to bowl first and they started well as took top three wickets in 6th over when Mumbai Indians were at 37. After this Mumbai skipper Rohit Sharma and all-rounder Corey Anderson built unbeaten 131 runs partnership for fourth wicket.

Both batsmen didn’t loss any opportunity to score the runs though Kolkata Knight Riders dropped some of the chances which could change the situation of match. Rohit Sharma missed the century and he returned not out on 98 with Anderson was batting on 55. MI put a target of 169 runs for home team Kolkata at Eden Gardens.

It wasn’t easy for KKR to chase this total especially when Mumbai have got good bowling line-up insights of Malinga, Harbhajan and Vinay Kumar. Kolkata also got bad start in the run chase and they lost destructive Robin Uthappa in the third over of inning. After this Manish Pandey and Captain Gautam Gambhir re-built the innings and took team’s total past 50 in 8th over.

Harbhajan Singh dismissed Pandey when he was batting on 40. After this Gambhir scored fifty to lead his team towards victory. Unfortunately he was dismissed on 57 and KKR was at 121.

Suryakumar Yadav and Yusuf Pathan confirmed Kolkata Knight Riders win by 7 wickets with 9 balls remaining. Yadav hit 5 sixes in the match and won maximum sixes award.
