Cricket and Bollywood has a deep connection which cannot be easily broken. This connection has lasted over some decades, be it with Cricketers dating Bollywood celebrities, cricketers and celebrities coming together to shoot for a commercial or Bollywood celebrities buying teams in IPL.
But, here we look at the Cricketers who tried their luck in the film industry as actors.
Ajay Jadeja
Ajay Jadeja had proved to be quite a handy player for the Indian cricket team before he was slapped a ban of 5 years with regard to match fixing which overshadowed his cricket career. He tried his luck in Bollywood by debuting in film ‘Khel’ as a actor in supporting role alongside the likes of Sunny Deol, Sunil Shetty and Celina Jaitely. The film turned out to be successful at the box office.
He also made a guest appearance in the film ‘Kai Po Che’ as a cricket commentator. He had challenged the ban, which was later quashed by Delhi high court and made him eligible to play domestic and international cricket again. He was made the captain of Haryana in the Ranji trophy(2013-14 season) and later that season he announced his retirement. Now,he has turned into a cricket analyst and commentator.
Vinod Kambli
Vinod Kambli was a part of the Indian cricket team for not a long time and knocked on the door of Bollywood after he retired. He made a debut in the year 2002 with the movie ‘Annarth’ alongside Sanjay Dutt and Sunil Shetty. The movie did not perform well at the box office. Since that time he has not acted in any other movie.
Salil Ankola
Only quite a few have heard about Salil Ankola as a cricketer mainly because of his unsuccessful career. But,he has made quite an impression as an actor. He has starred in movies like ‘Kurukshetra’, ‘Pitaah’ and ‘Chura Liya Hai Tumne’.
He later turned towards small screen with significant roles in shows like ‘Karam Apna Apna’.
Sunil Gavaskar
Sunil Gavaskar is considered as one of the most successful test opening batsmen of the world with over 10000 runs in test cricket. He has become a successful cricket commentator. Post his retirement, he gave a shot at acting.

He has played a guest appearance in a Hindi movie called ‘Maalamal’ which starred Nasseruddin Shah in a lead role. He has also played a lead role in a Marathi movie called ‘Savli Premachi’ , which did not make a great impression at the box office.
Kapil Dev
First world cup winning captain of Indian cricket team, Kapil Dev has also appeared in some movies but he hasn’t played a lead role in any movie. Some of the notable movies in which he has appeared are ‘Iqbal’,’Chain Kulli Ki Main Kulli’ and ‘Stumped’ amongst others. Now, he has turned into a commentator.
Angad Bedi
Anged Bedi is the son of Bishan Singh Bedi who was a successful cricketer. Angad was never able to match his father. He has only played domestic cricket for Delhi.
Later, he turned towards modelling and has hosted few television shows like ‘Emotional Atyachaar’ and ‘Cook Na Kaho’. But, his big screen debut came with the movie ‘Faltu’ which turned out to be a successful movie.
