Bangladesh cricket team has defeated South Africa in their opening match of 2019 world cup being played at England & Wales. Tigers registered 21 runs victory over Proteas to create history. This was South Africa’s second defeat in the tournament as hosts England beat them in the opening game of cwc19 on 30 May.
South Africa won toss and asked Bangladesh to set a target for them. Bangladeshi batsmen were terrific with the bat and all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan built excellent partnership with wicket-keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim to guide team towards a big total. Mahmudullah played quick firing 46 runs innings in 33 balls to take Bangladesh total 330 for the loss of 6 wickets in 50 overs.
The Proteas team never chased 300+ target in a cricket world cup match and this was proved again on Sunday when team failed to achieve the target and fell short by 21 runs. All South African batsmen got start but couldn’t convert it into big score which was required to chase such targets. Skipper Faf du Plessis made 64 runs. Mustafizur Rahman took 3 wickets for Bangladesh to restrict Africa from chasing target.
Shakib-Al-Hasan got one wicket in his 10 over bowling quota and he scored 75 crucial runs. For this all-rounding performance, he was awarded Man of The Match.
Apart from losing, South Africa’s biggest concern was injury of fast bowler Lungi Ngidi who bowled just four overs in the match and due to hamstring, he waled away from the field. Dale Steyn, Hashim Amla are already out from the playing-XI due to respective injuries. Hence, Proteas are struggling with key players injuries.
“We know we’re not good enough at the moment and we have to turn it around. We won’t be going back and just falling over, I can promise you that,” Faf Du Plessis said after the match.
