International Cricket Council organizes world cup championship in every 4 years since 1975. Inaugural ICC world cup was organized in England and its final match was played between West Indies and Australia at Lord’s London. West Indies cricket team beat Australia to win first cricket world cup.
The latest edition of ICC world cup was hosted by India in 2019 and Australia beat India in the final match to win their record sixth ever cricket world cup title.

Australia Cricket Team is the most successful team in ICC world cup tournament as they become world champions six times in 1987, 1999, 2003, 2007, 2015 and 2023. India and West Indies have won world cups 2-2 times each. West Indies won first two cricket world cups 1975 and 1979 whereas India became champions in 1983 and 2011.
Pakistan cricket team won world cup in 1992 and Sri Lanka became cricket world champion in 1996. England won recent world cup in 2019.

1975 World Cup
West Indies beat Australia in 1975 ICC world cup final to become inaugural world cup champions. WI won by 17 runs in the final at Lord’s London. Clive Lloyd was named man of the match in final.
1979 World Cup
West Indies beat England in 1979 ICC world cup final to win second world cup successfully. WI won by 92 runs in the final match played at Lord’s cricket ground in London. Sir Viv Richards was declared man of the match in final.
1983 World Cup
India beat West Indies in 1983 ICC world cup final to become world champions first time. India won by 43 runs in the final match held at Lord’s London. Mohinder Amarnath was awarded man of the match in final.
1987 World Cup
Australia beat England in 1987 ICC world cup final to clinch world cup title first time. Australia won by 7 runs in the final match hosted at Eden Gardens, Calcutta. David Boon was declared man of the match in final.
1992 World Cup
Pakistan beat England in 1992 ICC world cup final to become world champions first time in tournament’s history. Pakistan won by 92 runs in the final played at Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne. Wasim Akram was announced man of the match in final.
1996 World Cup
Sri Lanka beat Australia in 1996 ICC world cup final to win 1st title. SL won by 7 wickets in the final match held at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Aravinda de Silva was declared man of the match in final. Sanath Jayasuriya was awarded with man of the series.
1999 World Cup
Australia beat Pakistan to win 1999 ICC world cup final. Aus won by 8 wickets in the final match hosted at Lord’s, London. Shane Warne was declared man of the match in final. Lance Klusener was awarded man of the series.
2003 World Cup
Australia beat India in 2003 ICC world cup to become cricket world champions third time. Australia won by 125 runs in the final game played at New Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. Ricky Ponting was awarded man of the match in final whereas Sachin Tendulkar awarded with man of the series trophy.

2007 World Cup
Australia beat Sri Lanka in 2007 ICC world cup final to clinch world cup title 3rd time consecutively. Australia won by 53 runs as per D/L method in final played at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown in Barbados. Adam Gilchrist was announced man of the match and Glenn McGrath was awarded to Man of the series.
2011 World Cup
India beat Sri Lanka in 2011 ICC world cup final to become world champion second time after 1983. India won by 6 wickets in the final match hosted at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. MS Dhoni was declared man of the match whereas Yuvraj Singh was named man of the series.
2015 World Cup
Australia beat New Zealand in 2015 ICC world cup final to win cricket world cup fifth time. Final was played on 29 March at Melbourne Cricket Ground. Australia won by 7 wickets. James Faulkner was awarded Man of the Match whereas Mitchell Starc was named player of the series.
2019 World Cup
England beat New Zealand in the final of 2019 cricket world cup to claim their first ever world cup trophy at home of cricket, Lord’s. Match was tied after 50 overs as both teams ended up scoring 241. It was first ever super-over in the history of cricket world cup final and England scored 15 runs. Kiwis required 16 runs to win world cup but they ended up making 15 runs and game was tied.
Unfortunately there was no another super over and the team which scored more boundaries in the game, declared winners. Hence England claimed their first ever ICC World Cup.
2023 World Cup
The 13th edition of ICC cricket world cup was held in India from 5 October to 19 November 2023. Australia defeated India in the final of 2023 world cup to claim their 6th title. India was asked to bat and Men in Blue posted 240 runs in 50 overs. Virat Kohli and KL Rahul scored fifties that helped India to reach this total which wasn’t enough on this wicket.
Australia chased this target in 43 overs with the brilliant hundred from Travis Head.
