India is the defending champion in 2015 world cup as they won 2011 world championship by defeating Sri Lanka in the final. This is the second occasion when Australia and New Zealand are hosting ICC world cup after 1992 world cup. Winner of 2015 cricket world cup will be decided on 29 March at Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne and will receive 39,75,000 US dollars as prize money.

International Cricket Council has declared that if 2015 world cup final is not being played due to any reason, both qualified final teams will be jointly announced as world cup holders.

The opening ceremony and events of 2015 ICC world cup will be organized in Christchurch and Melbourne on 12th January.

TEAMS

There are 14 participating nations in cricket world cup 2015. Top 10 teams directly qualified for CWC15 as per ICC regulations. Rest four nations come from qualifier tournament which was held in 2014. Scotland beat UAE in Cricket world cup qualifier 2014 and both sides qualified for the main ICC world championship 2015. Afghanistan and Ireland come from 2011-13 ICC World Cricket League Championship.

Match Officials

Match officials for 11th ICC world cup are announced and all 12 members of ICC elite panel umpires will be responsible to organize matches successfully. Marais Erasmus and Nigel Llong will be the on-field umpires in the inaugural match of world cup between New Zealand and Sri Lanka. David Boon will be the match referee in 2015 cricket world cup opener. 

Warm-Up Matches

ICC has scheduled 14 non-ODI warm up matches for cricket world cup 2015 before main event begins. First practice match of 2015 cricket world cup will be played between India and Australia at Adelaide Oval on 8 February. Final warm up game of icc world cup scheduled to be played between Afghanistan and United Arab Emirates on 13th February at Junction Oval in Melbourne.

FIXTURES

The inaugural game of 2015 cricket world cup will be played between New Zealand and Sri Lanka at Christchurch. 49 matches are scheduled to be hosted during tournament including quarter-finals, semi-finals and the grand finale.

Initially it was decided that if final match goes to tie, the finalist teams would be declared world cup champions but International Cricket Council revoked the decision. Now if 2015 ICC world Cup final is a tie, then Super Over will decided the world cup champion.

International Cricket Council has announced official fantasy cricket league for 2015 ICC world cup. You can choose your XI for the tournament and win exciting prizes from ICC. There are two games in fantasy league i.e. Tournament mode and Match mode. You have to choose at least one wicket-keeper, four batsmen, two bowlers and one all-rounder in your 11. You are given one million credits for selecting the team.
