FIFA permits Iraq to host 2022 world cup qualifying matches

International football association FIFA have confirmed that Iraq can host Qatar world cup 2022 qualifying games and play their home fixtures in their country. FIFA lifts the ban from Iraq football association for hosting international games which was imposed in 1990. Since then Iraq is not hosting any international side.

Asian Football Federation President, Sheikh Salman Bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, appreciated the FIFA boss and governing council for their decision to reinstate and allow Basra to host the Iraqi team matches in the qualifying playoffs to the 2022 World Cup Finals, And The 2023. Asian cup finals.

“FIFA’s decision to lift ban from Iraqi stadiums and allowing them to host 2022 world cup matches, is the result of great efforts put by various Iraq football officials. They create ideal conditions to satisfy FIFA and get Basra to host the home leg matches for national team,” Salman Bin quoted as saying by a the post on official Facebook page of Iraq football association.

A committee from FIFA was sent last week to inspect the situation in Iraq and after getting satisfactory report from committee members, FIFA have lifted the three-decade ban from Iraqi stadiums to host international games.
