Despite Morkel’s effort, Delhi Daredevils fail to beat Chennai

CSK beat DD by 1 run in IPL 2015 match-2.

Chennai Super Kings beat Delhi Daredevils in the second match of 2015 Indian Premier League played at Chidambaram Stadium. It was an interesting and nail biting end of the match and it went to the last ball of the game. Delhi’s all-rounder Albie Morkel fought well and he took game almost in his team’s favor but couldn’t win it. CSK won their opening match of IPL-8 by 1 run.

Winning the toss Delhi Daredevils chose to bowl first. Chennai Super Kings openers Smith and McCullum failed to provide good start and CSK lost first wicket on 20 runs score in 2nd over. After this newly married Suresh Raina came to bat but couldn’t contribute more than 4 runs to his side.

CSK was struggling at 38/2 in 4 overs and South African Faf du Plessis and West Indies batsman Dwayne Smith tried to build partnership but they couldn’t add more than 33 runs for the third wicket.

Imran Tahir took Smith’s wicket in 9th over. MS Dhoni’s decision of sending Jadeja before him didn’t benefit CSK and he wasted 18 balls to make just 17 runs. Faf du Plessis also made 32 runs in 24 balls which was not enough. Chennai Super Kings lost wickets at regular intervals which didn’t allow them to make more 150 runs in 20 overs for the loss of 7 wickets.

Nathan Coulter-Nile took 3 wickets in CSK innings. In the chase of 151 runs target Delhi Daredevils lost 3 early wickets in the run chase and team’s total was 39/3 in 5 overs. Kedar Jadhav and Albie Morkel played well to keep Delhi in the match but Mohit Sharma dismissed Jadhav in the 14th over when DD’s total was 87. Delhi was now lost four wickets and all hopes were on the shoulder of Indian Premier League’s most expensive player Yuvraj Singh.

Yuvraj didn’t pay off and was dismissed by Dwayne Bravo after scoring just 9 runs. Captain Duminy also failed to deliver on the right moment and in the 16th over he returned to pavilion. Delhi Daredevils all hopes were now relying on Albie Morkel who was batting brilliantly. He hit the fifty. In the last over Delhi was needed 19 runs to win and Albie failed to score the runs.

At the last ball of match DD was required 6 runs and Morke hit the boundary. South African Albie Morkel made 73 in 55 balls and returned unbeaten to pavilion. Hence CSK registered 1 run victory and Ashish Nehra was awarded man of the match for his 3 wickets.
