Victoria Azarenka beat 23 Grand Slam winner Serena Williams in the second semi-final of US Open 2020 women’s single event in third set game. It was first occasion when Azarenka registered victory over Serena. She claimed 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory to through US Open final against Naomi Osaka on Saturday.
From the start of match, Serena Williams was looking so energetic and playing like she’s going to win this one. In the first set, Serena was leading with 4-0 and won the set as well with 6-1. But in the second set, Victoria seemed to be determined and was aggressive to get back in the game and yes, she did with style as claimed second set with 6-3.
In the third set, Azarenka didn’t give too many chances to champion player Serena and hold the match. With taking third set by 6-3, Belarusian player reached to US Open final after 7 years long run. She was beaten by Serena in 2012 and 2013 finals.
“It’s been seven years? That’s my favorite number. I guess that’s meant to be. I’m very grateful for this opportunity. On the road to the final, you have to beat the best players and today was that day,” Victoria said after reaching US Open final.
In the first semifinal played earlier today, Japan’s Naomi Osaka defeated Jennifer Brady 7-6, 3-6, 6-3 to book her spot in the final.
“It means a lot for me. I kind of consider New York my second home. I really love the atmosphere, even though sadly there’s no people here, I really feel this court really suits me well,” Osaka said after the match.
