Pakistan bowling coach Waqar Younis has made some serious claims and addressed Mohammed Amir and Wahab Riaz as the ‘cheaters’. Waqar said in a video conference that before 20 days of Australia tour in October 2019, senior bowlers denied to represent nation in test cricket which made difficult job for us.
“We took 2-3 youngsters to Australia, not just 1. The main reason for that was Amir & Wahab ‘gave us a dhoka’ at the last minute & decided they wouldn’t play Tests 15-20 days before the start of the tour,” Waqar said.
Former Pakistani pacer seemed unhappy with senior bowlers for not putting country first. He said players are keen to make themselves available for twenty20 leagues as there they get good money for bowling just 4 overs in a day.
Waqar said that young bowlers need experience of these seniors during the match and if these bowlers would not play test matches, how young fellows get experience. Announcing retirement on social sites will not help.
“There are so many leagues around the world, it’s easy money, bowl 4 overs & rest in the evening. Players go into their comfort zone & cause damage to the country. They don’t think about the broader picture. If you’re sitting on Twitter & retiring, that really hurts,” he said.
Pakistan played two tests and two T20s (one match washed out) on Australia tour during October-November 2019. Australia defeated Men In Green comprehensively in these matches.
