The Olympics is a quadrennial international sports festival in which thousands of athletes from around the world participate. After being postponed for a year due to the global coronavirus outbreak, the 2020 Olympics are upon us. Read on to learn everything you need to know about this year’s Olympics and Paralympics games.

When Are The Olympic Games Starting?

The 2020 Olympics kick off on July 23 and run through to August 8. The Paralympics are set to take place from August 24 to September 5. The sporting festival was initially scheduled to start on July 24, 2020, and extend across more than two weeks, coming to an end on August 9 but couldn’t take place due to the Covid-19 pandemic. So instead, the international sporting competition is taking place exactly one year later.

Who Will Host The 2020 Olympics?

The 2020 Olympics and Paralympics Games will be held in Tokyo, Japan. The Japanese won their bid to host the 2020 Olympics back in 2013. Therefore, they will still be referred to as the 2020 Olympics despite taking place in the summer of 2021. The Tokyo 2020 brand will remain unchanged, too. The games will be held across 40 venues, most of them in and around the Japanese capital.

What Are The New Sports?

The Tokyo 2020 Olympics will see five new sports to the event line-up, which currently stands at 33. The new sports are sport climbing, skateboarding, and karate. Baseball and softball will also be returning to the Olympic line-up after being removed for both the 2012 and 2016 Olympics. In addition, some of the existing sports, including fencing, boxing, kayaking, and canoeing, will also be rebalanced to increase gender equality.

Can I Attend The Tokyo 2020 Olympics?

As an international fan, probably not. However, some local fans will be able to attend the Olympics in person. The Tokyo Olympics organizing committee announced on March 20, 2021, that no overseas spectators would be permitted to attend the games in person, even if they’ve been inoculated. The goal is to ensure the safest Olympics possible. If you already bought a ticket for the event, you will be refunded.

How Do I Watch The Olympics From Home?

The Olympics is a massive global event that everyone should be able to enjoy, wherever they are in the world. If, for any reason, you don’t have a live broadcast of the Olympics in your country, you can always use a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to stream live games. By simply downloading a VPN, you can effectively trick your computer or mobile device into thinking that you’re in another country and stream the Olympics with no problem.

The Tokyo 2020 Olympics was one of the major global events that had to be postponed due to the raging coronavirus pandemic. Fortunately, cases are subsiding, the world is slowly getting back to normal, and the Tokyo 2020 Olympics are back on. Unfortunately, most of us will not be able to attend the Olympics in person, but you can catch all the action from anywhere in the world through online streaming.
