23-time grand slams champion Serena Williams is eagerly waiting to return on court as she confirms to be the part of upcoming US Open 2020 in New York. Due to Coronavirus outburst, all sports events including tennis championships didn’t take place from past 3 months almost.
“Ultimately, I really cannot wait to return to New York,” Serena said in a promotional video of the tournament.
In the early of March month, men’s and women’s tournaments were stopped due spread of COVID-19. French Open was postponed from May to September meanwhile Wimbledon Championships was cancelled for the first time in 75 years. US Open will be the major grand slam to take place after the restart of sport and Serena thanked and appreciated the efforts of USTA to host the event.

“I feel like the USTA is going to do a really good job of ensuring everything is amazing and everything is perfect and everyone is safe. It’s going to be exciting. It (will have been) six months since a lot of us have played professional tennis,” she quoted.
New York governor Andre Cuomo confirmed that US Open could be held in the city but without spectators. On this, Serena said that she’d definitely miss the crowd cheering her.
“I’ll certainly miss the fans, don’t get me wrong. Just being out there, and that New York crowd, and hearing everyone cheer. I’ll really miss that, getting me through some of those tough matches,” Williams added further.
US Open 2020 to begin at 31st August and will end on 13th September with the finals taking place. After that French Open to start from 27th September.
