Premier League Prepares for ‘Crazy’ Festive Period

When all the wrangling took place between powerful football clubs and FIFA over the scheduling of the 2022 World Cup, there was one thing above all that the Premier League was worried about – the loss of the busy and lucrative Christmas fixture list.

As it turns out the 2022 World Cup will wrap up a week before Christmas on the 18th December, but it’s not quite certain if the games will go ahead in the Premier League, given players won’t have much time to recover.

Of course, that is literally years in the future and right now Premier League clubs, players and fans are getting ready for another high-octane period that spans the UK Christmas holidays and into the new year. It is unique to be sure, since they cram so many games into a tight period, especially given other top European leagues embark upon a winter break.

Some of the key fixtures in this period will include: Liverpool vs Manchester United (16th December), Everton vs Tottenham Hotspur (23rd December), Liverpool vs Arsenal (29th December) and Manchester City vs Liverpool (3rd January). In total, from the 15th December to 3rd January we will se a whopping 50 Premier League games. That’s almost 14% of the season played in just over two weeks.

Betting fast and furious over December

As you can see from the games above,Liverpool, perhaps above all the big teams, have some huge fixtures to contend with over Christmas and the New Year.

They are currently priced at 9/2 (WilliamHill) to win the title ahead of 1/6 favourites Manchester City, but the results of these games could drastically change those odds for good or worse. Incidentally, there are lots of December betting offers, such as free bets, available that could help the Christmasperiod a profitable one for you.

Of course, it is not just the top of the league that has an important period up ahead.

Those mired at the bottom of the table can find themselves in deeper trouble or begin to pull away towards safety from relegation. Currently, Burley (4/9), Cardiff (8/15), Huddersfield (8/15) and Fulham (10/11 – odds from Bet365) are tipped by bookmakers to in the drop, but that could all change over the course of a few weeks.

Mourinho could have redemption on the horizon

Indeed,a special mention should be made for Manchester United and their December fixtures. While the title seems out of reach – bookies like 188bet have now put their hopes as high as 750/1 – Jose Mourinho’s future might be a more immediate issue in the coming weeks.

Aside from the clash with Liverpool mentioned above, fixtures against Newcastle, Huddersfield, Cardiff and Bournemouth all look winnable. Will that reinvigorate United’s season and, by consequence, Mourinho’sstanding with the Old Trafford faithful?

For fans, especially those who can make it to the games, it’s a brilliant time of year to catch non-stop Premier League action. While every game across the season is still only worth three points and thus of equal merit, a good run of the form can really galvanize club and define its season. Of course, there are draw backs too, with a bad run of form meaning a title is out of reach or relegation more likely. A roller-coaster ride – not to be missed.
